When it comes to betting in most things, people tend to bet more in these two situations: when they are winning a lot or when they are losing a lot. The biggest pitfall for players trying to win while playing any casino game online is that they don't understand how to manage their winnings and don't know how to mitigate the losses.

The biggest problem with betting at an online casino is that everything takes place so fast. If you get mad or frustrated for just 5 minutes, you can lose a lot of money playing a bunch of hands.

How much money should I bet?

To start out, take a look at how much money you are playing with. Let's say you are playing with $200, which is a pretty common amount to play with. You should start out playing $5 an ante. Folding won't put much of a dent in your stack. This is 1/40th of your total money. If you call and lose, than you have only loss 7.5% of your money.

If you were to bet a $10 ante, call than lose, than you would lose 15% of you money. The percentages can work with whatever amount of money you are starting with.

Determine what you will do on your second hand based upon what happened in the first hand. If you bet $5 and get two pairs and the dealer qualifies, than you have won $30 overall of 15% more than you had when you started.

Your next step is going to be determined by what kind of player you are. You bet the same and try to build up the winnings slowly or you can step it up a level and try to let a winning streak take you there.

When you are winning

When people get up, one of the big things they do wrong is forget how they got up in the first place. If you got there through attrition and grinding out wins slowly, don't blow all the winnings trying bet big. A good guideline to have is to bet no more than 1/3 of the money you are up on any one hand.

In caribbean stud, this bet is different than games where you only bet once in the hand. Because your total bet is 3 times the amount that you ante, you will only want to a little more than 10% of the money you are up.

When you are losing

What is the best way to get back to even? Although this might sound silly, the best way is to pretend that you aren't down and don't let that effect your decision making. This is the main way I use to make sure I don't lose too much money.

The best way to blow $200 is to think you are due and progressively bet more each hand. These bad streaks seam to happen at inopportune times and you can bust out in 4 or 5 hands.

Say to yourself, "oh well I lost one" because the casino has a natural advantage on you and you will lose. Sometimes it feels like it comes in waves, good streaks and bad streaks surrounded by lots of up and down action. The best thing you can do is be patient until you get a good string of cards.

Gradually increase your betting to try to take advantage of when you feel like you can do no wrong. But always maintain discipline to quickly turn the switch back off and go back to low wagering when you start getting bad cards.
